We are losing our most precious resource, our youth, to gangs, drugs and violence.
We are losing our most precious resource, our youth, to gangs, drugs and violence. Our district has nearly a 50% drop-out rate. That's horrible! But I truly believe we can change it.

This problem did not materialize over night and it will take a long-term solution to solve it. I believe we must create a new culture of education.

My Plan: Create an environment of education.
1. Have our high school students complete their community service hours at their elementary school by assisting those students with their homework and being role models.

  • Elementary students will receive much needed homework assistance.
  • High School students will reinforce what they have learned by teaching/tutoring the elementary students.
  • High School students will act as role models and plant the seed of the importance of higher education as they are about to go to college.

2. Work with our local colleges to have their students complete their community service hours at our Jr. high schools
  • Jr.high school students will receive much needed homework assistance.
  • College students will reinforce what they have learned by teaching/tutoring the Jr.high school students.
  • College students will act as role models and cultivate the seed that was planted during their elementary years, the importance of higher education as they work towards earning a College degree.

I whole-heartedly believe this will help to curtail the drop-out rate over time. This is not a band-aid, but a true solution.
