Candidate for
Council Member; City of Fullerton

Meet Shawn Nelson:

I am a lifelong resident of Fullerton and have a deep connection to my hometown. Being on Fullerton's City Council allows me to give back to the community that has given so much to me and to my family.

I graduated from Sunny Hills in 1984, and went on to get my Bachelor's degree at University of Southern California. From there, I received my Juris Doctorate at Western State University, and spent time studying Economics at Harvard as well.

In my professional life, I am a managing partner at the Rizio and Nelson law firm. In addition, I sit as an arbitrator for the Orange County Bar Association. I also am an investor in various businesses and properties throughout Orange County.

Additionally, I am a member of several different organizations. I belong to the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, the Elks Lodge of Fullerton, and am a part of the Orange County Bar Association.

I have represented the City of Fullerton in many ways during my last 6 years in office. Currently, I am a City of Fullerton representative to the Orange County Water District and the Water Advisory Committee of Orange County. In addition, I serve as an alternate for the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency.

My personal life is also full of activity. I have been married for many years to my wife, Sharon Nelson, and have three amazing children. I am a head coach and parent sponsor for the Fullerton Pop Warner Football's Mighty Might Team. I am a sponsor for the Fullerton Rangers youth soccer club and enjoy the games from the sidelines as a proud "Soccer Dad." My family and I are also active members of Zion Lutheran Church.

I am a staunch advocate for the Fullerton Historic Theater Foundation, which is working to renovate the Fox Theatre in downtown. I also appreciate the work that many important organizations do for our community. As such, I am a supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Fullerton, the All the Arts for All the Kids Foundation, and the Assistance League of Fullerton.

But most importantly, I am proud of my role as a public servant, and appreciate the opportunity to represent the interests of the citizens of Fullerton. I look forward to being able to serve for another four years, working with you to take our city into the future.
