As a parent, I know that I am no different from other parents in that I want what is best for my children. As parents, we are our children's greatest advocates and it is our job to nurture, protect, encourage, and support them as they grow. Education is one of the most important aspects of a child's life as they grow and it is one we cannot take for granted.

Public education is the foundation that this country is built upon and it truly does take a village to raise a child. It is the collaboration between parents, teachers, and community members that makes a truly successful education program. We are very fortunate in Capistrano Unified to have experienced administrators, amazing teachers, and dedicated parents all working together to benefit children.

However, that focus has been shifted away from our students over the past several years as power struggles and political battles have dominated the school district. It is now time to get back on track and get our focus back on the education of our students. It is time to start working together for the common good and the goals of the district.

Our district needs to set goals and implement a plan to achieve them. We need a 1-year, 2-year and a 5-year plan. Our children are growing up in a global economy and their entire world is technology driven. We must provide them with the tools and knowledge to be successful.

I want to help make that happen. We need trustees that are independent, caring individuals that are serving because they care about moving our district forward; not remaining stuck in the past.

The future is now...our children cannot wait.
