Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Marina

This information is provided by the candidate
Objectives
Dear Marina Voters and Residents,

I am running for a seat on the Marina City Council. I want to introduce myself to you and ask for your support.

My wife arrived in Marina in 1975 and I came in 1981. I received a degree in Civil Engineering from University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 1978. I am a licensed civil engineer in California and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. I also received an Executive Master of Public Administration degree from Golden Gate University. My wife works for the local school district and our two daughters are in college.

In Marina, I have managed several park projects such as Los Arboles Sports Complex, Tate Park, Locke-Paddon Park, Windy Hill Park, Skate Park, and Preston Park Rehab. I also worked on four shopping centers on Reservation Road. I worked on various bike projects such as Del Monte bike path, Marina State Beach bike lanes, Crescent Avenue re-construction, and California Avenue bike lanes. You may even live in one of the many subdivisions that I managed such as Cypress Cove, Monterey Bay Estates, Crescent Heights, Eastridge Estates, Marina Woods, Seabreeze and Reservation Estates. I also worked on the Marina Municipal Airport. I reviewed development of the California State University at Monterey Bay, Equestrian Center, Marina Heights, Dunes Project (formerly University Villages), Cypress Knolls, and Marina Station projects. I have worked with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, non-profit organizations, numerous local, state, and federal agencies. I have obtained about five million dollars in grants for the City of Marina.

Did you know that our families bought the FIRST two bricks to support the construction of the new Marina Library? Our daughter also wrote an article on the local newspaper to encourage Marina residents to support the new library.

I believe I can improve the quality of life of Marina residents and provide better services using current resources. I believe in overseeing currently approved projects and in redeveloping and beautifying the downtown area to attract customers and visitors.

I want to sell 300 housing units the City owns for between $150,000 and $200,000 to Marina police officers, fire fighters, teachers, workers, some current tenants, and low-income residents. I want to offer businesses that bring new jobs to the downtown Marina or to the Airport $20,000 per job. For the five mobile home parks, I want to adopt a conversion ordinance, a rent stabilization ordinance, rezone the five parks to be permanent mobile home use, and designate land in the former Fort Ord for a future mobile home park.

I will also address concerns from Marina youth, senior citizens, and all residents. I ask for your support and vote in November.

You may contact me by phone at 402-2455 or 384-3572. You can also send email to me at marina247@sbcglobal.net. My mailing address is P.O. Box 103, Marina, CA 93933.
