SCHOOL BOARD

Deanna Rodriguez Root - Has lived in Shafter all her life, attended local schools and graduated from Shafter High School. She was married to Roy Root for 36 years until he lost his battle to cancer in May of 2007. Deanna desires to continue his leagacy of service to children and community. Deanna has a daughter Brandi and two sons, Earl and Jeff who also attended local schools. She has been dedicated to the children and youth of our community for over a decade - by being involved and working on educational, advisory and community committees which improve the academic, social activities and health of our children and families:

  • Member of the Shafter Intergovernmental Strategic Planning Committee (Local agencies working together to improve our community).
  • California School Board Assoc. "Governance in Leadership" Graduate.
  • PTA (Parent Teachers Association) Member.
  • Organizer/Co-Chair Cinco de Mayo Festival and Parade for 18 years
  • Served on Small School District Council and represented our region in Sacramento.
  • Served on Kern County Advisory for Prevention of Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Served on Kern County Grand Jury
  • Shafter Senior-Citizen Center volunteer
  • Shafter "Healthy Start" Steering Committee Member
  • Shafter Historical Society Member
  • Shafter Chamber of Commerce Director (2008)
  • 1999 Community Service Award Recipent
  • Classroom- Volunteer Tutor
  • Volunteer- Coordinator for Children and Youth Dance program since 1996 /continues as non-profit for Folklorico
  • Community Advisory Committee on re-designation of schools
  • Kiwanis Halloween Parade Committee
  • Business-Owner Shafter Dance and Arts Center
  • Commendation from City of Shafter for promoting the arts to children and Youth in 2006
  • Honored as one of the "Leading Ladies of the Central Valley Award" for ommunity in 2007 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As a School-Board Member, I promise to continue encouraging more parent and community involvement in our schools and in the education, health and social activities of our children; as well as promoting to make schools the centers of the community. If Elected, I will continue to work hard for our children and put them and the School District as my first priorities. Helping to make sure that we continue to provide the best resources, inovative programs, and teachers possible in order that our children and grandchildren's academic and social needs are met.
