Before leaving Grade 3, all children will be successful readers.

By Elizabeth Ann "Liz" Griffin

Candidate for Board Member; Chico Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
If we take the steps necessary to ensure that children are capable of reading before they leave third grade, many of the later difficulties which lead to students dropping out can be avoided.
Being able to read is necessary in order for a child to be successful in school. Further learning in all other areas depends on this. Attention needs to be focused on those students who are having difficulties. Through early intervention, whether it be pull out programs, one-on-one tutoring, or use of computer-assisted programs, we can ensure success, and keep children engaged and excited about learning.
