WHY I AM RUNNING FOR CITY COUNCIL:

  • To provide a positive, constructive approach to governance in Berkeley.
  • To continue the legacy of Betty Olds as an honest, accessible representative of District 6.
  • To complete projects started during my years as council aide and Planning Commissioner.
  • To offer a balanced and sensible voice to Council deliberations

On a daily basis for 16 years, I have helped the residents of District 6 navigate through the labyrinth of city bureaucracy. I have the background and the skills to work with neighbors, colleagues on the council and staff to move our city forward. I like to get things done!

MY PRIORITIES:

A Safety and Preparedness Program

  • Training and practice drills
  • Additional caches of earthquake supplies
  • Vegetation management plan
  • Evacuation plan
  • Undergrounding of utilities
  • Expanded police patrols
  • Increased street lighting

Parks, Pathways and Streets
  • Park maintenance, repair, and improvements
  • Restoration of pathways
  • Street repair, drainage, and paving

Environmental Policies
  • Improve public transit to the hills
  • Explore shuttles to shopping districts
  • Expand recycling and prevent poaching
  • Support solar financing
  • Create comprehensive watershed management plan

Downtown Health and Vitality
  • Define appropriate scale and density of new projects
  • Attract and retain business
  • Improve parking policies and transit programs
  • Enforce street behavior guidelines
  • Cooperate with UC Berkeley on land use
  • Support cultural uses

Responsibility and Accountability
  • Increase funding to essential services
  • Promote open and transparent decision making
  • Re-examine budget priorities

Communication and Information
  • Publish a monthly e-newsletter to keep constituents informed about city matters, neighborhood issues, crime, and safety concerns
  • Create an open web based dialogue center for constituents to share information
