Reducing State spending in order to put more money back into the tax payer's pocket.

Many families are suffering under the economic crisis. A number of them can barely afford bare necessitities. We must curb State spending,in order to help people to survive.
When I was growing up in El Dorado county over 40 years ago, my mother stayed home because my father earned enough to support the family. Now that picture has changed. Most wives must enter the job market in order to keep the family afloat financially. As I visit door to door I am finding that an increasing number of these wives have more than one job. This is absolutely unacceptable. Where have we failed? The answer is the average family expenditures are four to five times more than what they were 40 years ago. Most of these expenditures are based upon laws passed by the legislative body and by counties throughout the State.

I am not saying that these laws were bad, but they are costing the average tax payer a lot of money that he/she simply does not have. The tax burden is too heavy for most individuals and families to bear.

We must give Californians a break by reducing State spending. We can start by cutting out unnecessary departments in the State or cutting nonessential jobs. It is my conviction that many legislators and State senators give high paying jobs to those who have helped them get elected. Many of these hirees are not really qualified for the position, but they are nevertheless hired. They are referred to as "public relations" people, but what do they actually do? We must encourage State elected officials to cut their staff, especially these non essential personnel.

Our prisons are overcrowded. The average inmate in a California pennitentiary is costing tax payers $23,000.00 a year. My suggestion is that we release inmates who are border line cases and who do not pose a threat to society. A number of them have been incarcerated illegally. By dec reasing the prison population I am convinced that we could literally put millions of dollars in California's economy which would would enable us to decrease taxes and thus put more money in the tax payer's pocket.

I further believe that we as elected officials should set an example by accepting a pay cut and not a raise. We should further be willing to put a portion of our salary back into our districts to help struggling families. If we did that then we could most certainly restore the faith of Californians in their elected officials. If you are an elected State official I urge you to take my suggestion. It is the right thing to do!

If we do not cut the fat out of government, then in my opinion, we are headed for financial disaster.
