Education Reform

By Mark Patlan

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 73; Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Education reform is necessary to put more money in the classroom by cutting bureaucracy and waste through more local control.
EDUCATION IS PRIORITY ONE
Educating our children should be our highest priority. Education gives our children the opportunity to advance and prosper. Today, education is more important than ever, so that our children, our state, and our economy can compete in the global marketplace.

STOP USING OUR CHILDREN
Our children should not be used as weapons against us in the state's budget battles. Sacramento politicians have created another budget crisis by overspending and assuming that revenues from the housing bubble would continue forever. They ignored the warning signs and have created another budget disaster. And now, they want your children to pay the price tag. This is wrong and it must be stopped.

STOP SHORTCHANGING CLASSROOMS
Forty cents of every education dollar fails to reach the classroom. Classroom dollars are being wasted on bureaucracy. Our classrooms are being shortchanged.

IT'S AS EASY AS A, B, C
Put more money in classrooms by cutting bureaucracy and waste. It's as easy as A, B, C.

A = ACCOUNTABILITY
We need more accountability for how education dollars are spent. The only way to get more accountability is to take away control from unaccountable Sacramento bureaucrats and replacing it with local control by school districts. We can better hold accountable our school boards and superintendents than we can unaccountable Sacramento bureaucrats.

B = BUREAUCRACY
We need less bureaucracy. We need to cut the Sacramento education bureaucracy because every dollar spent on Sacramento education bureaucrats takes a dollar out of your child's classroom. We need more teachers and less bureaucrats.

C = CLASSROOMS
We need more money for classrooms. With more money for classrooms, we can reduce classroom sizes, hire and keep better teachers, build and maintain school facilities, and educate the next generation. We can have more money for classrooms by cutting waste, eliminating unaccountable Sacramento bureaucrats, and reforming California's education system.
