For years Richard Holober has been standing up for working families as an elected local College Board President and school board member, health care leader and consumer advocate. He has the experience, independence and proven effectiveness to hit the ground running when Assemblymember Gene Mullin completes his tenure in 2008.

Richard Holober serves as Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California. As a leading voice for consumers and as an advocate for the California Nurses Association, Richard has been at the forefront in the fight for universal health care coverage and affordable prescription drugs.

Holober played a pivotal role in passing the nation's strongest financial privacy law and regulations preventing identity theft. He also has led the efforts to crack down on corporate lawbreakers and toughen toxic cleanup laws.

With more than 14 years experience on the San Mateo County Community College Board and the Millbrae School Board, Richard Holober will make sure schools and colleges are once again a top priority for California. He successfully reduced classroom overcrowding and updated curriculum to meet the needs of a changing economy. Richard Holober--who helped double the number of nurses trained at San Mateo Community Colleges--is supported by the California Federation of Teachers and the California Nurses Association.

To help train workers for the jobs of the future, Richard is leading the effort to establish new pre-apprenticeship programs at College of San Mateo, Caņada College and Skyline College. Richard Holober served on the Millbrae School Board before being elected to the San Mateo County Community College Board. He currently serves as President.

Richard Holober stands up for working families. He led the successful campaigns for an increase in the minimum wage and protecting daily overtime pay laws, and worked to restore Cal-OSHA worker safety protections. On the College Board, Richard supports innovative training programs designed to help workers adjust to a changing economy. A Peninsula resident for 17 years, and Bay Area resident for 27 years, Richard and his wife Nadia live in Millbrae, where they have raised their two sons.
