I have served on the SCDCC as Kathleen Haynie's alternate since March of 2007. I also serve on the Candidate Search and Development Committee.

I believe that the SCDCC has a responsibility to the residents of Sonoma County to provide more than a fabulous crab feed. We need to be a more visible partner in our community.

Although we have a fantastic Registrar of Voter's Office, our votes are still counted on secret, proprietary software that cannot be verified. As a voting member of the SCDCC, I will work toward educating Sonoma County residents of the need for "fair, transparent and clean elections" and that "paper ballots, hand-counted at the precincts" so that the first count is the correct count, will help to insure the integrity of our election system. It is through the resolution process presented to our Board of Supervisors and City Councils that this work can be put forward.

Precinct organizing, Get Out The Vote, mobilizing the democratic community, providing a year round headquarters, vetting local candidates and supporting those whose concerns are for our sustainable community and not outside corporation profits are all programs that need augmenting.

The SCDCC should be keeping the community abreast of legislation coming out of Sacramento as well as local issues regarding our water crisis, healthcare, forest conversions and issues directly reflecting the future of our community.

I would encourage the SCDCC's Public Relations Committee to be more visible in the Press Democrat and local news outlets and to make weekly press releases so citizens are more aware of the important issues that concern our community, how they can help and the work we're doing to address them.

I feel it is our responsibility, through the resolution process, to push the BOS and local City Councils to implement strong environmental and water protection mandates and support the implementation of Community Impact Reports (CIR) before any grading is permitted.

I feel the SCDCC should take a more active role in educating our community on the benefits of adopting a single-payer healthcare plan.

There's work to be done. We need all of us working together to get it done. Come to the meetings, volunteer, join a democratic club, join an environmental group, work on the Clean Money campaign, election integrity, water preservation, Know your Neighbor, the list is pretty much endless. Participatory Democracy means you need to participate. Let's get going and get this party started.

On June 3rd, please mark your ballot for Dale Axelrod, Susan K. Baritell, Stan Gold and Donna Norton. We're all in this together.
