Developers vs. Taxpayers

By Paul Broadway

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Diego; Council District 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Our current city leaders are bankrolled by developers and their interests. We need protections for our citizens and taxpayers.
Developers should be more concerned with long term projects and the efect of those projects, than making a fast buck off of our city. Since the developers have alot of money and San Diego land is becoming more densely populated, we have to protect small landowners and homeowners. On 6/26/06, our Supreme Court allowed eminent domain for private development. This is probably the most assinine decision every rendered by that court. It completely errodes the rights of small property owners and homeowners. for that reason, I would approve of eminent domain only in extreme conditions where the public has no other choice than to seize private land, for public development only. I have very strong feelings on eminent domain. It is one of the most draconian actions any government can take. It is not something that should be considered lightly. Further, I would support a municipal code disallowing the use of eminent domain for private development in the city of San Diego.
