Candidate Ballot Statement:

What do we want for our children?

I want schools that help them succeed. With teachers who are qualified. Facilities that are clean and safe. Classrooms that are equipped with technology. And parents who are involved partners. And I am prepared to work toward those goals.

I've served on the Sacramento County Board of Education School Financing Corporation. I understand budgets and accountability. I've written, analyzed and consulted on state school reform legislation. And I've seen it shot down in special interest crossfire.

I've been appointed to state and local advisory boards, commissions and volunteer organizations dealing with issues ranging from suicide prevention and after-school programs to public health and school finance.

My husband Kevin McCarty and I have worked to bring college counseling into our high schools. And while we had to raise the funds ourselves to start the program we've proven that it works... fewer dropouts and more kids going to college.

All of my experiences have taught me that schools can not succeed alone. It takes all of us. I am ready to serve on the County Board of Education. I will bring passion to the debate, leadership to finding solutions, and clarity to our priorities.
