Member, Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of Los Angeles; Assembly District 41

Dolores Press is a 33 Year Santa Monica Resident and a widow since 1976. She is the mother of four adult children and grandmother of seven.

Dolores Press has been acknowledged for her tireless service on behalf of renters, workers, women's rights, community volunteerism,and social justice for decades.

Coming from a family of union and political activists in the FDR tradition, Dolores was a draft counselor for young men opposed to the Vietnam war. She participated in the anti-war march on Washington DC in 1968. Feminism and gender equality were also passionate interests.

Retired from the retail clerks union, her activities have included National Women's Political Caucus and Santa Monica Rent Control Board. Elected as a Santa Monica City Council-woman from 1981-85, Dolores established the City Commission on the Status of Women,and the Farmer's market, as well as being a founding member of the Santa Monicans Allied for Responsible Tourism.

Dolores served for many years as President of the Santa Monica Democratic Club, and currently serves on the LA County Central Committee as 41st AD Committee Chair and on the Endorsement Committee. She was a board member of the LA County Democratic Party Labor Caucus and with the Coalition of Labor Union Women and an appointee to the Santa Monica College Personnel commission.

Political campaigns ahe has worked with have included Tom Hayden's senatorial campaign and both Sheila Kuehl's 1994 Assembly and 2000 State Senate races.

Dolores was honored as Woman of the Year 1998 41stAD and recieved the LULAC Community Unity Award 2002. Ms. Press has served on the Daybreak (Women's shelter) Advisory Board and currently volunteers for the local public library.
