Roger was born in Scotia, California to Jim and Eva Rodoni. He is a 4th generation native of Humboldt County and was raised on a cattle ranch near Eureka. His great grandfather Robert Jansen was one of the first settlers in the Eel River valley. Roger graduated from Eureka High School where he was active in FFA and 4H prior to that. He continued his education at Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo.

Following college, Roger worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for 7 years as a compliance supervisor in the Agriculture Conservation Program (ACP) + a cost sharing program promoting soil and water conservation through range management, stream restoration and forestry practices in Humboldt and DelNorte counties. This job required skill with mensuration and interpretation of aerial photography. Roger became a licensed pilot at this time.

During this same period, Roger traveled the rodeo circuit for several years competing in the western United States and Canada. He won numerous rodeos in both the bull riding and saddle bronc events.

Roger is married to Johanna and they live in Stafford on the banks of the Eel River. They have 4 children (Russell, Ronan, Ronald and Monica) and 5 grandchildren (Chauncey, Hanna, Kayla, Kelly and Cade). 3 of their children and 4 of their grandchildren live in Humboldt County.

In 1969 Roger began cattle ranching in several locations in Humboldt County. Roger and Johanna continue to raise beef cattle with Johanna managing the operation known as Rodoni Ranch. Their cattle are raised and sold as both natural and grass fed beef.

Roger and Johanna have done major Coho habitat restoration projects on their property in collaboration with Fish and Game and continue to partake in such projects. Roger knows that a healthy environment and a healthy economy are essential to one another.

Roger also taught at College of the Redwoods for 9 years in the Applied Technology Department.

Roger's hobbies include camping, Western Americana and a keen interest in history. Roger has an extensive collection of local historical documents and photographs. Roger and Johanna enjoy participating in local events with their team of Belgian horses and vintage horse drawn wagon.

Roger showed a talent and passion for art at a young age. His interest in art evolved into a life long venture. He is currently commissioned to paint the 2008 Fortuna Rodeo theme art work.

Roger is a member of Rotary International, Humboldt-Del Norte Cattlemen's Association, California Cattlemen's Association, The Buckeye Conservancy, Farm Bureau, Grange, Fortuna Chamber of Commerce and Native Sons of the Golden West.

Roger was elected as Second District Supervisor in 1997 and was re-elected in 2001 and again in 2005. He served as Chairman of the Board in 2000 and 2005. Besides his office at the courthouse in Eureka, Roger has maintained an office in Garberville for 11 years to provide easier access to the supervisor for his Southern Humboldt constituency on a weekly basis. He is on the Board of Directors of California State Association of Counties (CSAC), Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA), Cal Trans North District External Area Liaison (DEAL) and is current Chairman of Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO).

Roger's style of leadership is bold, practical and decisive. Roger understands that a Supervisors' job is about the nuts and bolts of making county government work for the citizens he represents.

And Roger loves his dogs. He is seldom seen without at least one of them by his side.
