Mary's Agenda

By Mary Nejedly Piepho

Candidate for Supervisor; County of Contra Costa; Supervisorial District 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Mary's Continuing Goals as Supervisor
As a County Supervisor, Mary has a wide array of policy goals that she works hard to implement. As past chair of the Capital Facilities Planning Committee, she is working to identify county service delivery needs and planned funding for development of facilities and operations countywide, particularly in far East Contra Costa County and South County. Mary's primary focus is to bring critical county services directly to the public being served.

As vice-chair of the Finance Committee, Mary is working to protect the county's tax dollars. Under Supervisor Piepho's leadership, important policies were created like the county's newly adopted County Reserve Policy and the Budget Policy that simply says "We can't spend more than we take in revenues...". Mary also believes in a reformed county pension system that is fair and reasonable to both retiring county staff members and to the Contra Costa County taxpayers.

As a member of the Board's Transportation, Water and Infrastructure Committee, she is a strong proponent of aiding the county's infrastructure needs, such as significantly improving transportation in Contra Costa County, protecting our natural resources, and promoting important levee rehabilitation.

Mary is keenly tuned in to the ongoing discussion at the state level of levee maintenance and rehabilitation, and the potential of a renewed Peripheral Canal project.

Mary also is a strong advocate of public safety and programs that will assist quality education and work-force training in Contra Costa County. She is a strong proponent of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of county government so that it effectively serves the needs of its citizens while carefully protecting the tax payers investment.

Mary promotes the effective accountability of county staff and also believes in a reformed county pension system that is fair and reasonable to both retiring county staff members and to the Contra Costa County taxpayers. She is a strong proponent of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of county government so that it effectively serves the needs of its citizens while carefully protecting the taxpayers investment.
