Hello, my name is Jessica Montiel. I am one of eight siblings born to parents who immigrated to the U.S. from Veracruz, Mexico. I grew up in the projects of East Los Angeles, California. I graduated from the University of California at Berkeley where I studied Engineering, mathematics, and the Social Sciences. While at U.C. Berkeley, I was captured by the progressiveness of the Bay Area and decided to live here. I have lived in Richmond for 20 years and have worked for the Berkeley Unified School District for more than 20 years in the administrative offices. I am also a bilingual-computer instructor for the Oakland Technology Exchange-West. I am a Human Rights/ Human Relations Commissioner for the City of Richmond, am the Co-Chair of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA)- Richmond, am a member of both the Richmond Progressive Alliance, and the Richmond Greens. I am running for the County Council for a second term because I want to continue to do my part in helping to make this world a better place to live-in for ALL people no matter what color, race, disability, creed, gender, sexual preference. All people should have access to the bare necessities in life: a safe place to live, healthy food, clean water, clean air, and health care. My ideal of a perfect government would be one in which those in power would take a responsible, quick approach to stop Global Warming, use alternative energy sources -Solar, Wind, Thermal etc, stop manufacturing businesses from polluting our air with toxins, stop companies from genetically modifying our foods and seeds, and experimenting irresponsibly with Nano technologies. I care about our plant, people, and creatures and I would like to continue to fight for this ideal government. Thank you for your time in reading this. |
