CRIME, PUBLIC SAFETY & POLICE SERVICES

By Bill Quirk

Candidate for Council Member; City of Hayward; 4 Year Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Eliminating problem houses, community police, and increasing traffic enforcement must be a priority.
Bill supports efforts to strengthen City ordinances to deal with problem houses, so houses that are centers of drug sales and crime can be shut down quickly and permanently. He supports strengthening the community-policing program by having police commanders assigned to specific neighborhoods, so they will know what the problems of each neighborhood are.

He will also support police services that effectively combine counseling with law enforcement. Programs such as Youth and Family services provide policing at Hayward schools, gang prevention, domestic violence prevention, and child abuse prevention programs which are critical for dealing with these growing problems.

SPEEDING & RECKLESS DRIVING are also crime problems. Bill supports speed humps and other traffic calming methods. You can petition for one in your neighborhood. Bill supports changes in City laws, so the City would receive more of the revenue generated from traffic citations. This would allow the City to hire more traffic officers.
