By Wayne Nishioka

Candidate for Member, Democratic Party Central Committee; County of Alameda; Assembly District 16

This information is provided by the candidate
The County Central Committee has a vital role in setting forth party priorities
I believe the County Central Committee needs to play a role in addressing the serious issues that are impacting our community - whether it be health care costs, the serious effects of unemployment and underemployment, a frightening crime rate, assisting people in this economy with their housing needs.

The County Central Committee can address the community concerns by creation of structure which will allow local Democratic clubs greater access to the Committee through a functioning and effective website. In addition, the Committee has a role in meeting with clubs and in encouraging communications from local organizations. This could be in the form of public meetings where interested persons would address issues with the goal of coming up with solutions that can be carried to legislative or executive branch action. As a part of this mandate, the Committee should work to assure that the Democratic Party assure transparency in all its activities to enhance its credibility with voters.

Lastly, the political process needs to address the overwhelming problem of special interests which outweigh the average person's interests. The political process needs to take action to assure that elected representatives vote for the public good rather than in the narrow interests of those whose access is facilitated through economic power and financial wealth.
