I was born in the midwest, moved to the Bay Area when I was two years. I was raised in the San Leandro area near 159th Avenue in the late 1940`s and 50`s. Reflecting back to my youth, brings back happy thoughts. I thank God often for being blessed with my wonderful parents. While I was growing up, it was a more simple time, a more peaceful time. Children were able to be children.

In elementary through Junior high we had one teacher/classroom, which I feel is the best....and we learned well, plus the classes were at 30 students. The teachers were able to discipline an unruly student by swatting the student`s hands, or sent to the principal`s office for a swat on the backside. These things didn't happen often, as most children were taught to respect their elders. We started our day in school with the Pledge of Alliance, and a Prayer. I, also, saw better food in the school cafeterias. It was a time when schools were for teaching the three R's instead of being a social experiment.

Our local high school didn't have police officers at the school, as there evidently wasn't a need. I never heard of drugs in my time, even though they may have been there, I didn't see or know anyone that took them. I feel drugs are a curse to this nation. As a teen, I didn't feel fear walking to the movies by myself. I didn't feel fearful walking to school every day, rain or shine. There were no drive by shootings, stabbings, or gangs. In only a few decades, all of this changed, to the negative.

I married my present husband James in 1961, moved to Fremont in 1963. We raised our four children in Fremont. I've been blessed to have six grandchildren, and now there is a great grandchild on the way. To me, real success in life, lies in raising well mannered, honest, responsible children who will go out into the world as good citizens.

I want change, positive moves back to a healthy time for our young people...they deserve it. It's all about the children, our future generations.
