Letter to the Editor

In the May 20 Briarcliff Manor School Board election, I strongly urge you to vote for candidate Charlie Trainor with his 21 years of invaluable experience and dedication to our district. Having served 12 of those 21 years with Charlie, I saw him consistently demonstrate astute and critical thinking on many issues like in budget and audit review, facilities planning, comprehensive curriculum oversight and service evaluation for best use of personnel. He always concurrently asks "What is best for our children" and "Can the taxpayers afford it". He also represents the 56% of taxpayers who do not have children in school. With Charlie's 21 years of school board experience, we need his institutional memory and long term perspective to help guide our other four school board members who collectively so far have six years of service among them.
With Charlie's career credentials in corporate finance and certification as an internal auditor and fraud examiner, he understands many nuances in the budget process and always tries to get the best value for our tax dollars. As a careful decision maker, he always tries to understand all sides of a problem and listen to many people before making decisions. He is a creative thinker who does his research and always comes prepared. I strongly urge you to keep this extremely well qualified man on our Board of Education as we really need Charlie's expertise and dedication in these challenging financial times.
Dr. Arlene F. Rosen
Briarcliff Manor Board of Education 1995-2007

To Whom it May Concern,

On May 20, we will have the opportunity to vote on the School District Budget and decide whether to reelect a long-serving member of the Board of Education or to elect his challenger. As a former School Board Trustee, I am pleased to see increasing interest in Board service and I commend anyone who is willing to volunteer their time to serve the Briarcliff Schools and community.
In this election, I will be supporting the reelection of Mr. Charles Trainor. Mr. Trainor has served this District for 21 years and has a wealth of experience and a historical perspective that benefits the Board in its deliberations and decision-making. The other four seats on the five-person Board are currently held by dedicated, talented, and hard-working individuals, all of whom have been elected in the last two years and all of whom have children currently in the Briarcliff schools. In the next few years, the Board will have many important responsibilities and challenges, including managing the tax burden, negotiating a new contract with the Teachers' Association, and adopting and implementing the District's Strategic Plan. I believe that the Board will benefit most from having the fifth seat filled by a person with significant Board experience and the perspective of someone whose children have graduated from the Briarcliff Schools and who continues to reside in the community. For these reasons, I will vote to return Mr. Charles Trainor to the Briarcliff Board of Education.

Respectfully,
Alicia R. Zalesin
