This information is provided by the candidate

Dear Neighbor, My name is Charlie Trainor and I'm seeking your support for another term in the Briarcliff school Board election on May 20, 2008.

Let me introduce myself. My wife Pat and I have lived in Briarcliff for 26 years. I have retired as a Managing Director from the world of international banking and I am currently the president of two private corporations. The first is a real estate investment and management firm and the second is a management audit corporation specializing in helping school districts identify potential financial risks, institute financial controls and recommend strategies for Board oversight. I have an MBA from Fordham University, a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Administration and Supervision from SUNY New Paltz. I am New York State certified as a school district administrator, a school business administrator and I'm also certified in internal auditing and fraud examination.

My wife, Pat is psychologist with a private practice in Mt. Kisco. All of our children had the benefit of Briarcliff's outstanding educational program and have graduated from Briarcliff High School.

We have seen dramatic changes in our school district over the past 21 years. I am fortunate to have played an important role in those changes.

My unique training and background helps me understand the many varied points of view when it comes to educational issues.

During my past terms on the Board, we have taken significant actions to improve the safety and academic outcomes of our students, while trying to contain expenses.

For those of you who are new to the district here are some of the accomplishments that your Board has achieved during my tenure.

  • We have completed two ambitious construction and safety projects on schedule.
  • We have created a distinct and flexible facility for the middle school and high school campus.
  • We have completed a district wide strategic planning survey and will create a community wide committee to recommend specific actions to the board.
  • We have embarked on lobbying efforts with state legislators to limit the ever increasing unfunded mandates from Albany.
  • We have argued the our case to legislators for changes to the state aid formulae that work against Briarcliff.
  • We have worked with the community to form a successful and creative Educational Foundation.
  • We have worked with the community to oppose the Millennium pipeline running near our schools.
  • We have developed and implemented plans for increased scrutiny and monitoring of fiscal systems. Our Audit committee is considered a leader in fiscal oversight.
  • We have worked with community members to deal with strategic planning, drug and alcohol issues, stress issues and the development of mentor program for senior internships.
  • We have increased use of security systems and campus monitors.
  • We have invested and expanded the use of technology in the classroom.
  • We have increased school family communication with the use of district web site and e-mail.
  • We have improved and expanded the science program by partnering with outside resources and adding electives in authentic research, forensics, marine science, environmental science and principles of engineering. In addition:
  • We are providing our students with 21 Advanced Placement courses with outstanding results.
  • The state assessments and Regents scores are far above most New York districts.
  • Briarcliff Middle School has been nominated as a Blue Ribbon school of Excellence.

It would be unfair for me to take credit for all that has been done. The success of our district is the cooperative result of the student's efforts, the teachers' dedication, the visionary leadership of the administration, supportive community and finally a Board that is responsive to district needs in a prudent and thoughtful manner. I'm proud of the work we have done together.

I believe I am well qualified to serve the district for another term. I would appreciate your vote on Election Day, May 20. Thank you.
