Federal Budget and Tax Policy

By Greg Conlon

Candidate for United States Representative; District 12

This information is provided by the candidate
My goal is to balance the Federal budget without increasing taxes.
Balancing the Federal budget is imperative to help improve the economy and get the job creation machine going in an upward direction. We can meet this challenge by cutting government waste in discretionary programs and giving the President power of a line-item veto of unnecessary expenses and better controlling the growth in the entitlement programs of Social Security and Medicare. I will work within my first two-year term to sponsor legislation that addresses the rising costs of Social Security and Medicare without jeopardizing the benefits now being provided to today's senior citizens. As a businessman and CPA, I can help identify programs that could be eliminated or reduced by cutting waste.

Today's income tax rates are scheduled to increase dramatically unless legislation extending the current rates is passed next year. Such an increase could dampen consumer spending, decrease jobs, and slow the economy enough to create disastrous consequences in 2010. We can--and must--cut the Federal deficit without increasing income taxes.
