INSURE PUBLIC SAFETY
My number one priority during the last four years has been to insure public safety. This effort has resulted in a lower crime rate in part one crimes. The City has received by court order a Gang Injunction which provides additional tools to effect enforcement in high crime areas.
We have more police officers on the street and have restored the bike patrol to Uptown Whittier. Vigorous anti-graffiti strategies have been implemented including the use of a graffiti tracker. Because of City collaboration with the judicial system, the Courts now mandate parent/child counseling for juvenile graffiti offenders.
The City is in the process of building a new police station to house our over 100 officers. Our current station was built over 50 years ago to hold 29 officers. We will build this station WITHOUT going to the community for a bond. The City will use current available funding.

SUPPORT PROACTIVE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
During the last four years the Whittwood Town Center revitalization has occurred resulting in a Super Target store as well as new housing stock and new restaurants.
Building permits have increased four fold not only with home remodels but with commercial development such as the new multi story Presbyterian Hospital Medical building and new condominiums being built in the east on Whittier Blvd.
The Alpha Beta site has been demolished and our development partner is in the process of drawing plans for new housing and retail on the site.
Additional code enforcement officers help to prevent decay from occuring throughout the city.
The City now has a Business Development director to interact with developers and business owners to promote appropriate growth.
I have and will continue to support the right of personal property owners to develop their properties within the paramenters of the law.

PROVIDE NEEDED PUBLIC SERVICES
During the past four years the City has completed the Parnell Park Senior Center. Every street in the city is paved once every five years. Sewers and water services are continuously enhanced.

WHITTIER'S FUTURE
It is our duty and responsibility to appropriately preserve Whittier's legacy, history & resources for future generations.

CONTINUING ISSUES
The Council will be making a decision on whether or not to build a library on the Alpha Beta site. If needed funding can be made available, I support building a library once again in Uptown Whittier.
The City continues to be at the mercy of the Federal Judge and the State of California regarding the Nelles property.
Every step of the way since Nelles has been closed the City continues to be proactive in it's efforts to cause the State to sell Nelles to a private developer. The City would then have control over zoning of the site. The Council has publically stated that we want housing and retail on the site.
