Questions & Answers

1. What is your position on Measure A?

It is a blank check. It is intentionally vague of exactly what it is for.
If anything is to be spent from public funds the public should know in precise terms what it is for.
The location of the building, the use of the building the cost and size is not mentioned in the measure and the public will not know the precise terms until after the elections.
The cost is to range anywhere from 5 million to 11.9 million to be decided upon after the vote.
The availiable reserves are 17 million. This money would be better used to fix the infrastructure, sidewalks and streets. That would be an investment in the future.

2. How can the City of Lawndale best secure an acceptable standard of public safety?

The Sheriff's department is a professional organization dealing with law enforcement operating under the laws of California.
We pay several million a year for them to do their job. We should continue using the sheriffs.
I went to a couple of neighborhood watch meetings recently. At the meeting people were able to tell representatives of the sheriff's department what was occurring on particular streets. By doing this the sheriff department would know what areas to target.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a city election in April of the even-numbered years? Do you favor continuing the practice?

I personally would like to see two years for each council seat. I think four years is too long considering the pace of change.
