Jon Meyer -- In His Own Words

By Jon Meyer

Candidate for Member, Board of Education; Long Beach Unified School District; District 4

This information is provided by the candidate
Jon Meyer is one of four generations of Meyers to teach in the LBUSD. His grandfather, father, wife Sylvia, and son Scott all have dedicated their lives to educating the youth of our community. Jon retired after 40 years in the LBUSD and has been a teacher, coach, member of the Teachers Association of Long Beach and principal. As a member of the school board, he has served as its president and, currently, is vice president.
Our district is one of the nation's best, yet we have much to do. Safe, clean schools staffed with talented, caring adults are critical to the success of every student.

Safe schools must include safe transit for students to and from school. All students must be personally and positively connected to their schools. Collaboration, not confrontation must be the hallmark of our connection with parents, teachers, support staff and school communities.

We've accomplished a great deal while I've been a School Board member. Student achievement is up and we continue to enjoy a national reputation for excellence.

To build on our past successes, we need a renewed commitment to community control of our schools. We must avoid the conflict that has engulfed LA schools, teachers and administrators. We must keep our School Board focused on our core mission of excellence in education.

Please join me in working to provide the best for our children, our schools and our community by marking your ballot for Jon Meyer for School Board on April 8th.
