Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Michael A. Kane

Candidate for
Council Member; Township of Middletown; Ward 1

Why am I running for the district council? Primarily it is out of general principle the democratic process is important but it is not enough to have elections. The elections need to be contested at least 2 candidates running from 2 political parties. It is out of this general principle that I decided to run for office. The goal is to get elected and thus balance the township council.

I see that there is so much more our township can do to benefit our residents. But our township needs help. The local government has allowed a massive downsizing in public and mass transit. I recall when Regional Rail continued beyond Elwyn and travel all the way to West Chester was possible. This downsizing caused congestion on the streets in our neighborhoods; which are located in and around Elwyn station, and on the major highways which bisect Middletown.

The solution to most of the problems facing our township can be resolved by new fresh faces in township government which can use new ideas to resolve issues in new ways.

Partisan politics should not dominate government. Government should not intrude into private matters. The protection from harm and well being of the citizens should be the role of government, and the power of government flows directly from the people. The proper role of government is not to further the agenda of one political party. It is to serve the needs of everyone.

I am asking for your vote in this important election. I do hope that you decide to vote on November 6, 2007
