Questions & Answers

1. What are your qualifications for office? (50 word limit)

12 years experience in criminal law, the primary type of case in Municipal Court. Six years experience in the military and 18 years in private industry provides the life experience required in Municipal Court. The ability to deal fairly and courteously with all who come before the court.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

1. Having been in front of every judge currently on the Hamilton County bench, I have seen both the good and the bad. I have several judges I intend to use as role models in dealing with litigants, defendants and attorneys.
2. In criminal cases, jail is the best punishment for some convicted of a crime; however I strongly support alternatives to sentencing in appropriate cases, particularly in light of the current lack of jail space. I will also look for other cost-effective options to jail in order to reduce the cost of justice to taxpayers.

3. What specific changes would you like to see in the administration of justice in Hamilton County? (150 word limit)

1. I would like to see the increased use of community service as a sentence in all courts. Not only would it serve as an effective attention-getting punishment for non-violent cases, it would provide an economic benefit to Hamilton County and reduce the demand on the jail.
2. I would strongly support legislation to cap reinstatement fees for those convicted of multiple traffic crimes. Often individuals will accrue such large fees after multiple convictions that they will never be able to get a valid driver's license. A cap would still exact a cost from those convicted but also make a valid driver's license an economical alternative to driving without a license.
