Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dan Howett

Candidate for
Board Member; Finneytown Local School District

This information is provided by the candidate

As a candidate for Finneytown School Board, I have three priorities: financial accountability, educational opportunities, and "spreading the good news of Finneytown."

In these days of tighter budgets for school districts, we need to make sure that every tax dollar is wisely spent. For the last three years I've served on two financial committees (CIP and Blue Ribbon Finance Committees) to oversee the district's dollars and make recommendations. Through solid fiscal management, the district has been able to put off the need for another operating levy by at least two years. I want to ensure that fiscal responsibility continues to be practiced in Finneytown Schools.

I want to ensure that there are educational opportunities for all our students, both those who are going to college and those heading for the skilled trades. I want to see more advanced placement and honors courses at all levels of our school.

I also want to see Finneytown work more closely with vocational schools and skilled labor groups to train our students for good paying jobs after graduation. As an engineer in the power generation industry, I see first-hand the shortage of electricians, carpenters, welders, and other skilled trades. These are in-demand, high paying jobs for which we can do more to prepare our students.

Finally, I want to energize our community to help spread the good news of Finneytown. We have a great community with fantastic schools, but most people outside Finneytown have never heard of us. We need to let the Tri-State know how good it is to live in Finneytown. That will help our schools, our community, and our property values in immeasurable ways.

I hope to serve you for the next four years as a board member of the Finneytown Local School District.
