Change

By John R. Hammon

Candidate for Mayor; Village of Newtown

This information is provided by the candidate
Finally, change is occurring within the village and needs to be positive and controlled to fit the village plan.
Change is occurring everywhere within the village. Within the Police Department a new Police Chief was appointed, new cars with new graphics were selected, updated equipment, uniforms and firearms were procured, a new police clerk position created and filled, an officer joined the Hamilton County SWAT team, and the department adopted a fitness requirement for new officers. All occurring within the past year.

Many road improvement have been achieved with minimal village funds. A majority of funds were state and county grants or by forming a partnership with Hamilton County Parks or Cincinnati Water Works to share cost of improvements which benefited both the village and them. All our roadway projects included sidewalk expansion and will continue as I am working on new projects. The center turn lane was created to allow for improved traffic flow and entrance on to Main St.

The Hamilton County bike trail was extended from Milford to Newtown. I was able to convince the Park District to connect to our sidewalk system as a part of their new entrance and our intersection improvement.

New business like "Details, inside" have come to Newtown and renovated buildings. Other businesses have remodeled and expanded. Expanded eating options are now available.

I have been assisting with the creation of the Friends of Newtown Foundation. Soon, they will be accepting donations and funding new projects like the beautification of the island at Roundbottom Rd. and State Route 32.

Yes, change is occurring. The village needs to insure it is in a positive and constructive manner to fit the village plan.
