Public Safety Concerns

By Cassandra N. Brown

Candidate for Council Member; City of Norwood

This information is provided by the candidate
I feel public safety is an issue that needs to be addressed. I feel we need to insure our safety departments are staffed appropriately, and that includes our fire, police and building departments. We also need to provide adequate functional equipment for these departments. We need to insure that, for example, our police officers are provided with the proper equipment to reduce speeding on our city streets. For the fire department, a second firehouse may become a necessity to insure they can adequately service our growing office population. We need to stay vigilant to ensure their safety equipment stays in good working order, as well as obtaining new technology for them. We need to work to make the building department more user-friendly while strengthening our ability to rectify problems with absentee landlords and student housing. Our Health department needs our help with adequate funding, through grants and other methods, to increase their staff and provide services that protect the vital public health of all, but especially our youth and senior population.
