Protecting our lagoons from commercialization

By Patrick McKinnie

Candidate for City Council member; City of Foster City

This information is provided by the candidate
Foster City's Lagoon is a very important part of our city and protecting it from further commercialization could keep our jewel protected and healthy
As we all know, Foster City is unique in that we have an incredibly successful lagoon system encompassing our homes + a rare feature that cannot be denied. Since all of us are so blessed to live in an area with such purpose and beauty, it only seems natural for city officials to protect it. Our intertwining city lagoons provide a space for outdoor recreational opportunities and serves as a recognizable landmark, but they are also made up of limited space + space that if commercialized cannot be replaced. If the city were to deny business licenses and applications that would directly commercialize our lagoons, the focus could shift to increasing privacy for waterfront property owners and creating city-funded activities for the simple purpose of uniting our community.
