I am seeking your support for my re-election for City Council of San Mateo on November 6th. These past four years I have served on the City Council have seemed to fly by. Along the way we have witnessed and I have taken part in some very significant issues facing our city.

Our new central library opened to critical acclaim in August of 2006. I have had the pleasure serving as the Mayor to receive several awards praising our library for the design and the sustainable building practices employed. Most importantly, more people are using and enjoying our central library than ever before!

We broke ground for the new police station in April of 2007. This will be a state of the art facility. It will provide urgently needed space for our police force in a building designed to be fully functional after a major earthquake. This facility will be beautiful, inviting to the general public, secure, and environmentally sound.

The Transportation Corridor Specific Plan and the Specific Plan for Bay Meadows Phase 2 were approved. We are already receiving applications from developers for transit-oriented development along the corridor. This includes the former Bay Meadows racetrack area and the K Mart site. There is still much work to do and I hope you will help me to be there shaping our city's future.

The Downtown Specific Plan update is currently in progress.. The downtown area has been a subject of special focus for me. The downtown is the heart of our city. If it is healthy, chances are the rest of our city will be as well. We need to continue to encourage the redevelopment of the downtown getting more diversity of shops, more parking, more housing, and a public plaza where people can meet and interact.

We must maintain a balance between development and lifestyle through careful consideration of the impacts on our city and the benefits of more housing, jobs, open space, and tax revenue. Thoughtful well-planned environmentally sustainable growth is good for our city.

Please help me continue to serve on the City Council setting policy and making decisions that improve the quality of life in our community. My longstanding commitment to San Mateo will continue to motivate me to work hard, keep an open mind, and do my best. If you have any questions concerning my position on the issues of this campaign you can refer to my website bringbackjack.com or contact me directly at 650-340-1107. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to receive your invaluable support.
