Howard Lieberman Background Summary

After completing university programs in both Physics and Electrical Engineering, Howard spent fifteen years working for two large technology companies, Bose and Apple where he shipped more than a billion dollars of innovative products. He then spent ten years as an entrepreneur, college professor and dean. For the last few years he has been applying these experiences as an innovator, innovation manager and innovation educator by founding and running the Silicon Valley Innovation Institute where he often finds himself functioning as an innovation articulator. He is also active as a composer and performing jazz musician.

Howard Richard Lieberman Brief Biography

Howard Richard Lieberman has three decades of experience as an innovator primarily in the fields of audio, computing, and education. Most recently he has founded the Silicon Valley Innovation Institute which helps companies turn Vision into Value. He has founded five companies: Interactive Visual Analysis Languages (INTERVAL), Integrated Acoustics, Escatech Media Inc., Dorado and Asonda Corp. He invented new technologies at Bose Corporation, Apple Computer and all of the companies he founded, including analog & digital audio hardware and adaptive content software architectures. He has developed DSP based measurement systems at Bose, JBL, Boston Acoustics, and Apple Computer as well as contributing to standards committees including the AIFF and MIDI standards at Apple. He has been a member of ASA, AES, and IEEE ASSP. He has been the Technical Audio Editor of the QuickTime Review and has consulted to JBL, Harman Intl., Bose, Apple, Boston Acoustics and Fishman Transducers. Currently Dean of External Affairs, as well as a Professor of Innovation Management for Cogswell Polytechnical College, he has also been working in the area of Intellectual Property for several years and has been a member of the Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Association (SVIPLA), the Intellectual Property Society (IPS), the Licensing Executives Society (LES), and has recently chaired a Summit on the Globalization of Technology. Professor Lieberman is currently Chairman of the SCI3 Foundation Board. Howard Lieberman has completed a BS in Physics from the City University of New York, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island with a focus on Digital Audio, Computer Architecture, Signal Processing, and Electroacoustics, and has Post Graduate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Acoustics & Image Processing.
