Open and Inclusive Government

By Russ Cohen

Candidate for City Council member; City of Burlingame

This information is provided by the candidate
Diversity of opinion on Council is paramount to open dialog. We must have balance on our council.
City government should be more inclusive. That's why as your Councilman, I committed myself to engaging the public in a more meaningful way, through town hall meetings, surveys, weekly coffee talks and many lively discussions. These opportunities have illuminated your ideas, opinions and perspectives about our city and I consider these efforts to be invaluable in developing policies that have guided our city for the last 18 months. I hope to continue to foster an open government in my next term.

By re-electing me this November you will continue to see your ideas put into action.

I have said that local government should be more accountable. During my tenure I have asked many tough questions: of staff, council and the public. I promise to continue doing so, even when it isn't necessarily politically correct or advantageous. It is simply, the right thing to do.

Local government should be more transparent. Since my election to council, we have had more study sessions, citizen subcommittees, public meetings than ever before--the improved outcomes are proof positive that this method is successful in bringing divergent views together.

It seems clear that since my election, paradigms have shifted, new ideas have been brought forward and the public finally has a seat at the table.

Re-elect me on November 6th and we will continue moving Burlingame forward together.
