It's Time to Solve Our Water Problems

By Lance Monosoff

Candidate for Board Member; Monterey Peninsula Water Management District; Division 5

This information is provided by the candidate
WHAT I BELIEVE:
  • It's time to solve our water problems. We are all in this together.

  • Cal-Am Water Company has been illegally pumping from the Carmel River and the Seaside Aquafir.

  • Stop taking so much water or we will suffer state imposed financial over-pumping penalties through higher water bills.

  • A new desalination plant is the best solution sized to meet current needs.

  • Complete the desalination plant before the next drought occurs.

  • This is a community wide resource problem. We should be looking for a shared solution.

We can also save water by:

  • Saving stormwater runoff, now going directly to the ocean.

  • Conservation and education.

  • Allowing homes & businesses to be plumbed to use re-cycled water.

  • Collecting rain water and storing in cisterns.

SOLUTIONS:

  • Encourage sustainable water use;

  • Fair allocation of new water to current residents and local businesses;

  • A new small desalination plant designed to meet our current community needs;

  • Simplified rules that make sense to all of us;

  • Solutions with the fewest environmental impacts;

  • End water profiteering.
