My leadership qualities to communicate with and to energize people bringing our community together for focused action,

My network to build a bridge between City Hall and our School Board, to make effective what each has to offer to bring for effective action,

My commitment to community service to achieve focussed results.

I want all our kids to have excellent education in a safe healthy school environment. That's why I moved my family here. I love the people my town. I have a wide network through extensive community service, as a local eye doctor, getting to know my many patients, as a local businessman, and as an involved parent. I listen to folks, communicate in many ways, and harness passions and address challenges, in this case our schools' budget crunch, a burning issue. I see the many community talents, resources, and desires we have. I bring these together to form our own public and private resources in focused action to achieve both immediate and long-term goals for our schools. This we can do through our Education Foundation, our City, our Corporate sponsors all working with our schools.

Forging a strong and workable relationship between our schools and our City Hall is an important part of effectively addressing our schools financial shortfalls. The key here is "workable". To get the City council along with the City Manager to agree to what part they play, they have some funds not enough, but they have desire. They need support from both our parents and the wider community to achieve any small part of their dream for the City. This includes the City's desire to build a new swimming pool. My supporters want a better pool, but still to keep control of the land for the long- term future. The City is but one major cornerstone, however.

We also need our parents and our seniors as cornerstones. We need our seniors involved to shore up community support and their resources and to energize the parents to take more active interest.

We need our Manhattan Beach Education Foundation as the great strong cornerstone it is. Finally we have our corporations as a cornerstone to help as they might. The Education Foundation's role is already evolving to expanding and can develop a Blue Ribbon task force to lay the blue print for, say, the Begg pool rebuild. It can also develop a building fund task force task force to capture major donations to set the building plans in motion. We have the resources and the know-how.

I'm planning to hear and embrace all the cornerstones so together in focused action we can further strengthen our schools for everyone's benefit. My becoming School Board member is focused on this goal. I plan to move matters with all involved swiftly towards our goal. I have the passion and the know-how to get those with the expertise involved. I will bring us together, those of us who care, and make it happen. We will lay down, one by one, doable goals get things done that serve our school and city wide interests.
