Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Esthela Torres de Siegrist

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; El Monte Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees is entrusted with the education of our students in the district. The Board members must fulfill their mission and commitment. The Board is ultimately responsible for student success or lack thereof. It is a question of never seeking self-aggrandizement or ego enhancement! It is always refusing to bow to the political ends of any political party.

Habitually, political parties endorse candidates not for their expertise nor for their knowledge, but do so, in a narrow-minded effort to further the political power of the party. Too often, at interviews for endorsement, the major emphasis and focus is on "How long have you been a member of the party? What have you done to help the party?..." It is, unfortunately, usually a matter of "what deals have been made and with whom?"

The question about endorsement should always be, "How are you qualified for the position you seek? What will you do to improve the quality of education? What special preparation and experience do you bring to the table?"

I firmly believe that it is everyone's God-given right to an excellent education. Our students and yourth are our future. We must and can prepare them well for the Twenty-First Century. We must provide success for all and prepare students for their careers in such a way that they can achieve.

The resources are available to provide the Best Schooling for our high schoolers. It is our duty to maximize resources and bring the coalition of students, families, and communities together, with the goal of student success as paramount.

There are no excuses for school failure. We must and can help each and every student achieve to their highest potential.

"Everyone is a learner and can be shown how to learn to the highest potential!"
