Smart Voter Official Statement for Mike Gardner

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Riverside; Ward 1

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

MIKE GARDNER
AGE: 59
OCCUPATION: Retired Utility Executive
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Ward 1 in Riverside has been my home for 35 years. I am a UCR graduate. My wife, Joyce, and I raised three children, all graduates of Riverside’s public schools.

I spearheaded efforts to block the sale of Tequesquite Park and Fairmount Park’s Market Street frontage, helped stop development of 1,100 housing units in the Tequesquite Arroyo, and negotiated safer routes for dirt hauling, when the City landfill closed, lessening the impact on neighborhoods and schools.

I have served the City of Riverside as Chair of the Community Police Review Commission (three terms), Vice-Chair of the Quality of Life Subcommittee of Mayor Loveridge’s Advisory Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Fire Department’s Disaster Preparedness Committee. I was honored as the City’s Volunteer of the year in 2000.

I oppose the predatory taking of property for development projects.

I support: open, accessible and responsive government; fiscal prudence; park preservation; infrastructure maintenance; and public safety. I will pay attention to the entire ward, not focus only on downtown.

I believe City business is the people’s business and should be open to public comment.

I would appreciate your vote. Please contact me at 951-897-8660 or Mike@MikeforWard1.com. For more information, please go to http://www.MikeforWard1.com.

Thanks, Mike.
