I greet Andy Lewis's decision to run for Delaware County Council with mixed emotions.

I think this Ward, if not the entire Township, is losing the best, most honest and hardest working Commissioner it has ever encountered. Yet his decision brings exciting new challenges for the residents of the Fifth Ward in general and me in particular. I have had the privilege of working shoulder-to-shoulder with Andy for the last three years and have learned so many lessons from him.

The main focus of Andy's message for good local government is to be honest, answer constituent's calls and provide the best services for the lowest taxes. Armed with the knowledge that Andy has passed on to me and inspired by his example, I have decided to run to succeed him as Haverford's Fifth Ward Commissioner.

For the past three years I have served as the elected Republican Committeeman of Haverford's Fifth Ward, Second precinct. When I was elected I made the decision to attend every regularly scheduled monthly Board of Commissioners meeting. Although I trust Andy immensely, I felt I should see exactly how the Township was being run and form my own opinions rather than rely on how someone else spun the issues. What I found was disturbing to say the least. The dishonesty and corruption of no less than two of our Commissioners raised itself to the level of being criminal. On November 13, 2004 I joined with Andy Lewis and my fellow Committee person, Pat Biswanger, in writing a formal complaint to the Pennsylvania Attorney General against George Twardy (former Sixth Ward Commissioner, current Chairman of Haverford Republicans) and Fred Moran (current Fourth Ward Commissioner & Co-Chairman of the Haverford Republican Party). Our complaint led to the Township building being raided for thirty plus boxes of records, the seating of a Pennsylvania State Grand Jury and the indictment of Moran.

Along with the regular meetings, I have also attended many of the special meetings directed at various Township issues such as traffic, crime, recreation, infill development and last but not least Haverford State Hospital. Due to my actually being involved I feel that the "learning curve" if I am elected will be minimal which will assure the voters of a smooth transition from Andy Lewis to me.

I pledge to you, that if elected, I will continue Andy's good government crusade. With the proximity of Haverford State to our Ward I think it is important to stay the course and make sure that things continue to press forward honestly and openly until this development and recreational treasure is finished.
