Position Paper: Streets and Infrastructure

By Thomas F. Palmeri

Candidate for Council Member; City of Covina

This information is provided by the candidate
Streets are a priority. Having properly maintained roads improves public safety and reduces repair costs to residents while improving property values.
Yes, streets are a public safety issue. When streets are not adequately maintained, Police Cars, Fire Trucks, Paramedic Engines, and Ambulances are forced to slow down increasing response time. We have to keep the streets in proper working order to let emergency vechicles move as fast as possible to provide live saving services.

As residents we need to maintain streets to keep unncessary damage to our cars, trucks, RVs, from occuring. Potholes cause alignment problems, wear at tires, and destroy shocks. All of these are costly and avoidable repairs.

In addition to maintaining repair costs, adequately maintained streets enhance property values. Would you buy a house if all the streets leading to it were riddled with pot holes and ditches from utility companies splicing in wires and pipes? Of course not, you would look for a house in a well maintained neighborhood that had properly maintained streets.
