Affordable Housing

I support inclusionary zoning. We should provide for affordable housing units within new residential or mixed-use developments throughout the city. Housing Density I support housing densities that will not adversely change the current unique character of the city.

Neighborhoods

I support preservation of distinct Claremont neighborhoods from incompatible uses such as strip mining, inappropriate housing density and mass, and other intrusive activities.

Public Safety

We need reasonable, cost-effective, and viable solutions for dealing with an overcrowded police station and its outdated facilities. We should consider decentralization, a joint venture with other agencies to build new facilities, or a combination of alternatives.

Tree Policy

The entire community benefits from street trees, yet frequently the burden associated with these trees falls disproportionately on certain property owners. We need a policy that fairly balances the benefits of city trees and their impacts on individual private properties, and alleviates damage to private sewer lines, sidewalk destruction, and branches or whole trees falling. The policy should include citizen education and incentives for proper care of trees on private properties.

Preservation of Hillsides

I support preservation of hillside properties as permanent open space. Hence, my support for Measure S.

City Personality

We must maintain the unique character of Claremont as a safe and desirable place to live.

City Finances

I support the establishment of diverse businesses for balanced and stable sales tax revenues. This is vital to pay for our desirable municipal services, and to fund our employee pensions fully.

Youth Activities

We should provide appropriate recreation and sports facilities for our youth. We should also provide excellent educational programs. I support updating the Youth Master Plan regularly.

Senior Services

We should maintain the existing high level of our senior services and programs. I appreciate the efforts of the Committee on Aging as it oversees implementation of the Senior Master Plan. I support continuous yearly review of the senior needs including housing, safety and security, transportation, recreation, nutrition, and legal assistance. The Senior Master Plan should be updated at regular intervals. We must seek ways to do whatever is necessary to improve the general health and welfare of our senior citizens.

Public Art

Claremont has a unique legacy in Southern California art and many renowned artists who work here today. I propose the creation of a Public Art Master Plan to institute ways and means of increasing the display of art in the city. I have a vision of Claremont as an art destination city in southern California.

Education

I support maintaining and improving an effective partnerships between the city, the Claremont schools, and the Claremont Colleges. We should collaborate to increase educational, recreational, cultural, and other opportunities for our citizens.

One Community

We should celebrate and foster the diversity in our city but ensure that all residents and neighborhoods are treated equally and fairly.
