MICHAEL L. MAGLIO BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Michael "Mike" Maglio has lived in southern Claremont for ten years. He wants to help maintain the excellent overall quality of life in Claremont and to provide a stronger voice for the residents of southern Claremont through representation on the Claremont City Council.

Mike and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, McKenna and Cameron. McKenna is eight and attends Oakmont Elementary School where she is a good student and a friendly, outgoing little girl. Cameron is five and attends the A.B.C. School in Duarte, a school designed to meet the special educational needs of children with Autism.

Mike has worked in the paper industry for twenty years. The past fourteen of those years have been spent with Kelly Paper in increasingly responsible supervisory and management positions. As Kelly Paper's Distribution Center Supervisor, Mike oversees a multi-million dollar inventory and is responsible for the management and timely distribution of Kelly Paper products to 47 retail stores. He is a strong leader who is very comfortable in managing goal-oriented projects and people.

Mike is actively involved with his church where the pastoral staff refers to him as the "idea guy". His "can do" attitude has earned him respect and an important leadership role in the development of each year's Christmas outreach titled The Living Nativity, Granite Creek Community Church 4th of July float, and other important events that bring the church and community together. Mike believes that part of being a good leader is setting a good example for his own children. He set a personal goal to attend his children's school and extra curricular activities. Consequently, he is "field trip" Dad, soccer Dad, and just recently he became "Brownie" Dad where he spends time with McKenna while she learns about community service as a new Brownie.

When their son, Cameron, was diagnosed with Autism, Mike and Jennifer became as educated as possible about this challenging disease in order to provide Cam with the best possible future. The Maglios have also successfully established a local support group for families who have children with special needs. In addition, they organized a special mentoring program at their church for children with special needs. Mike and Jennifer have great respect for all families that have a child with a disability and they continue to use their experience to reach out to other families in the community.

Mike has always enjoyed participating in city events such as the Spring Egg Hunt, the 4th of July Parade, and the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. He recently commented "It is such a great feeling to be building strong memories for our kids in such a close-knit and charming community". He has a lot of energy and good ideas and wants to give something back to the city he loves.

Mike is a graduate of Arizona State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the College of Public Programs.
