Meet the Candidate

By Andrea M. Cruz

Candidate for Council Member; City of Azusa

Interview with Andrea
Why are you running?

I seek to represent the citizens of the historic town, Azusa, California on the City Council for the following reasons: to protect Azusa homes from special interest motivated eminent domain seizures, to protect the individuals right to own and use property as he sees fit without unnecessary onerous limitations (for example requiring large setbacks for motorhomes); to promote free speech- recognizing that dissent and opposition are part of the American electoral process- without which leads to a government without accountability; to stop the downzoning of commercial properties along Foothill and Azusa Avenues to residential usage; to prevent local tax dollars from handouts to redevelopment sponsored national brand corporations which stifle and dominate the marketplace and in so doing obliterate the American concept of free enterprise; and to ensure that in all things, the government does not abuse their power against their citizenry but instead faithfully supports their noble endeavors. God bless America.

Why are you a Democrat?

Because I believe in your right to vote for my opponent without fear of retaliation or retribution in the form of broken windows, torn fences, spot zoning, down zoning and eminent domain seizures. I believe in free speech, without which leads to oppression, and I believe that the best decisions are made by a weighing of the arguments for and against, considering all of the evidence. I believe that elected officials should direct the redevelopment agency to represent the interests and concerns of residents not special interests nor self interest.
