Smart Voter Political Philosophy for David Glenn "Dave" Cain

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Los Angeles; District 2

In the years growing up I was taught that America was the best country in the world, that the freedoms we enjoy were guaranteed by our Constitution. Upheld and protected by our elected representatives.

In following years I have found that it is not the Constitution or our officials that protect or guarantees our rights and freedoms, but rather the participation of the citizens who value those things put forth in the Constitution.

I watch as those we elect give poor excuses as to why they can't or maybe will not truly represent the people. With major construction projects approved, before we even know what the negative impacts will be. I watch as we are given crumbs from the tables of big money and corporations, and wonder why we lose jobs to other countries.

I see hard working people who can't afford to live anywhere near where they work or lose their homes, because the profits of large development companies seem more important than the people who live here. I don't understand why even professional tradesmen can't afford to buy the housing they build?

I watch as our education system gets worse by the minute, with children's needs being neglected on many levels. Gangs that proliferate because the jobs and education that would offer a positive alternative no longer exist. Traffic that gets worse by the day, and developers who want more people here to buy their condominiums?

I see, and am painfully aware of these things and many more things that our representatives don't seem to address.

I don't claim to have all the answers, yet believe that as strong communities coming together, we can find effective solutions to the problems we face. I believe that the government our forefathers envisioned with "We the People" being valued above all things, can and will work once again.

I was told recently by one of the elected officials, that the citizens were "stupid and ignorant and it's our jobs as politicians to protect them from them selves" I don't believe this. I know that it's our city and country and we are smart enough to know what we need. Only through Common-Unity(community)can we effect the course of our society and see the positive things we want for our future and our children's future.

Please stand with me to bring positive changes to how our city government works.

Thank You David Cain
