BUDGET AND MANAGEMENT CONCERNS

By Milena Albert

Candidate for Board Member; Pasadena Unified School District; Seat 4

This information is provided by the candidate
My perspective on fiscal issues of our district.
As someone with practical experience and graduate level of training in analyzing budgets of city, state, and federally funded non-profits, as well as government entities, I can attest to the fact that very often expenditures reflect either habitual or political choices. In addition, the unintentional waste of resources is a common result of excessive bureaucracy. Budgeting is an ongoing process and has to reflect ongoing changes in the district. The decisions on what gets cut and what can't be should always come from strategic long term planning and not just a reflection of immediate financial challenge. While some priorities might change its level of importance from time to time, budget shall always reflect one fixed priority, which is also the sole reason for our district's existence: our students.

I would also encourage the board to research some other comparable districts that do well and study their methodology to find answer to some of our issues.
