Questions & Answers

1. What are your Qualifications for Office? (50 word limit)

Twenty-five years' judicial experience, first as a judge on the Hamilton County Municipal Court (1982+1995), now 11 years on Court of Appeals (1995+). . Adjunct professor, at UC Law since 1990. Nationally recognized expert on legal writing. Four legal books, 350 published opinions, 102 articles written.

2. What plans do you have to address your top three priorities? (100 word limit)

: Continue to work efficiently, and help the two new judges who start next year to adjust to the court; continue to teach seminars on plain writing to judges and lawyers locally, statewide, and nationally and continue to write articles and columns, and to serve the community.

3. What is your policy regarding the referral of civil cases to mediation, arbitration or a visiting judge? (150 word limit)

Our court has one of the best mediation programs in the nation--many cases are resolved, saving time and money. I oppose using visiting judges unless absolutely necessary, because 1) it's almost never necessary on our court, and 2) visiting judges are expensive.
