1. How will you ensure that election administration in Ohio is fair, honest, and impartial? How are you going to ensure that all eligible voters who want to vote in Ohio can vote? (150 word limit)

Answer from Greg Hartmann:

I vow to serve the voters of Ohio first and foremost. Second, I pledge to work closely with each board of elections so that the needs and concerns of every country are heard and answered in Columbus. Where Election Law in unclear, I will issue directives to help clear up the confusion. Third, I promise to serve as a neutral Chief Elections Officer.

My top priority as Chief Elections Officer will be to protect and preserve the integrity of Ohio's election system. This will include being vigilant against voter fraud, and taking all steps necessary to ensure that every eligible voter is encouraged and permitted to vote. That's why I support the recently passed legal protections aimed at stopping individuals and groups from corrupting Ohio elections with false voter registrations, fraudulent absentee ballots, and harassment of voters at polling places.

Answer from Jennifer L. Brunner:

My three-part plan includes (1) verifiable and audited election results, (2) restoration of trust in Ohio's election process, and (3) leadership that upholds Ohioans' values. I bring unrivalled experience to this position as an election law attorney for 13 years, a common pleas court judge, a deputy director to former Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown, handling legislation for that office and for the 88 county boards of elections, and serving as a member of the Franklin County Board of Elections.

I have dedicated most of my professional life to protecting and improving ways for people to participate in their government. In addition to running a private elections law practice for 13 years, I bring experience as a former Franklin County Board of Elections member, Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge, and Deputy Director and Legislative Counsel for former Ohio Secretary of State Sherrod Brown.
