: Continue to work efficiently, and help the two new judges who start next year to adjust to the court; continue to teach seminars on plain writing to judges and lawyers locally, statewide, and nationally and continue to write articles and columns, and to serve the community.

3. What is your policy regarding the referral of civil cases to mediation, arbitration or a visiting judge? (150 word limit)

Answer from Mark P. Painter:

Our court has one of the best mediation programs in the nation--many cases are resolved, saving time and money. I oppose using visiting judges unless absolutely necessary, because 1) it's almost never necessary on our court, and 2) visiting judges are expensive.
