Questions & Answers

1. There is growing support for reform of the Rockefeller drug laws. What will you do to: a.) Initiate significant reform of these laws; b.) Provide adequate financial support for programs, on the community level, designed to cope with the impact of such reform?

The current Rockefeller Drug Laws due require reform. My goal is to work with the state legislature towards continued reform in order to return and allow judicial discretion on a case-by-case basis, while working with the court system and respective agencies to expand current substance abuse, preventive, educational, and re-entry programming. I would like to see funding designated for the prison system re-allocated to areas of need such as education, research, and economic development.

2. What programs and actions will you support to protect communities from the negative consequences of the state’s increasing dependence on gambling revenue?

As a small business advocate, I feel that we must increase our efforts and focus upon developing additional small business initiatives with a goal of creating more opportunity to integrate with a growing cultural tourism market and existing clusters of industry. The strength and vitality of small businesses will assist in fostering a concept of responsibility and self-sufficiency within WNY communities.
